ERP Software for Metal Service Centers
Generic ERP tracks inventory in units or pounds. A metal service center needs to track a coil by its actual weight, its width, its grade, its heat number, and what is left of it after you slit it. Those are not the same thing. A system that cannot model variable dimension inventory without workarounds is going to create reconciliation problems that never fully go away.
What to look for
The non-negotiables: catch weight and variable dimension inventory (coil length, sheet size, and weight as actual inventory attributes, not just fields on a note), remnant tracking after cutting or slitting operations, and cert traceability by heat number if you serve aerospace or automotive customers. That last one will come up in a customer audit and you want to be ready for it.
If you do toll processing (processing customer-owned material), consigned inventory management is also essential. Customer material needs to be tracked separately from owned stock, cleanly, without a lot of manual bookkeeping to keep it straight. Ask vendors to walk you through the full toll processing workflow from material receipt to shipment.

EOXS is a cloud-native ERP built exclusively for steel service centers, processors, tube mills, warehouses, and metals distributors. Founded in 2019, it addresses a niche that legacy ERPs serve poorly — multi-attribute inventory (grade, gauge, coating), coil and plate processing, remnant management, and steel-specific pricing logic. Award-winning product in a narrow but under-served vertical.
Exceptionally strong vertical depth for steel service centers — one of the few cloud-native ERPs built from the ground up for this niche. Weakness is being a newer vendor (2019) with limited review volume and some opacity in pricing beyond the entry tier. Worth serious evaluation for any flat-rolled steel or service center operation.
Purpose-built ERP for metals service centers — steel, aluminum, and specialty metals distribution and processing. Handles coil/sheet/bar inventory, heat/lot tracking, cut-to-length and processing operations, and customer-specific pricing. Different from fabrication ERP — built for service center workflows.
Purpose-built for metals service centers — coil/sheet inventory, heat tracking, and cut-to-length operations are native capabilities rarely found in general ERPs; limited public documentation and no published pricing.
RealSTEEL is a metals industry ERP built by the Wolcott Group (Medina, OH) on top of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. It extends D365 BC with steel-specific features: multi-attribute inventory (grade, gauge, coating, heat number), cut-to-length processing, yield calculations, toll processing, and remnant management. Combines the Microsoft ecosystem benefits with genuine metals-industry depth.
Solid choice for steel service centers and metal fabricators wanting the Microsoft ecosystem — D365 BC base means Office integration, Power BI, and a large partner network. The Wolcott Group extension adds genuine metals-specific depth. Main caveats: D365 BC implementation complexity and cost, plus limited public review volume for the RealSTEEL layer specifically.
ERP designed for steel and metals service centers — handles the unique inventory, pricing, and processing requirements of metals distribution. Covers multi-dimensional inventory (coil, sheet, plate, bar), customer-specific pricing, and processing operations.
Veteran metals service center ERP — multi-dimensional inventory and metals-specific pricing are genuine strengths; legacy architecture and limited modernization are visible friction points.
